ICAN’s Salute to Service 5K Returns This Summer
Salute to Service 5K in 2025.
The Indiana Canine Assistant Network (ICAN) is gearing up for another exciting event at Kreager Park as the Salute to Service 5K and Family Walk, presented by Stoops for Troops, returns on Saturday, August 1.
Registration is open now, inviting runners, walkers, families, and dog lovers of all ages to join the cause.
This year marks Stoops for Troops’ second year as the presenting sponsor. The foundation—created by Stoops Freightliner–Western Star—focuses on supporting veteran causes across the region. Their continued commitment has helped the event become one of ICAN’s most impactful community fundraisers.
“We’re so grateful to Stoops,” said ICAN President Jillian Ashton. “Their generosity is helping us grow across Indiana and reach more veterans and clients in need.”

Proceeds from the event support ICAN’s psychiatric service dog program for veterans living with service‑related trauma. These highly trained dogs perform essential tasks such as applying deep‑pressure therapy, turning on lights, retrieving medications, interrupting flashbacks, and waking their handler from nightmares.
Although each dog requires more than $30,000 in training, ICAN proudly waives placement fees for qualifying veterans.

Participants of this summer’s 5K will receive a free event T‑shirt, and every mile completed helps ensure more veterans receive the life‑changing support of a service dog.
With Stoops for Troops returning as a major supporter, ICAN expects this year’s event to be its most spirited yet—a morning filled with community pride, wagging tails, and a shared commitment to honoring those who served.
