ICAN Partners with PsychArmor to Become a Veteran Ready Organization
The Indiana Canine Assistant Network (ICAN)—the only accredited service dog organization in Indiana—has partnered with PsychArmor, the national leader in military culture training, to achieve Veteran Ready Certification. This certification underscores ICAN’s commitment to strengthening its connection with military and Veteran communities by ensuring staff receive evidence‑based, culturally informed training.
“Veterans are an important part of the community we serve, and it’s essential that our team is equipped with the knowledge and tools to support them effectively,” said ICAN President Jillian Ashton, CFRM. “PsychArmor helps us meet Veterans where they are, understand their unique experiences, and empower them to unleash their full potential.”
By completing PsychArmor’s Veteran Ready learning track, ICAN joins nearly 200 organizations nationwide that use PsychArmor’s online courses, digital badges, and certificates to better understand the strengths, needs, and lived experiences of service members, Veterans, and their families. The military‑connected community represents more than 10% of the U.S. population, making cultural competency essential for organizations like ICAN that serve Veterans directly.
PsychArmor’s impact is well‑documented: among more than 100,000 learners surveyed since 2019, 98% reported they would use what they learned, and 97% said they gained new knowledge through the training.
“We value our Veteran Ready partners who are actively working to improve their support for service members, Veterans, their families, and caregivers through education and training,” said Dr. Tina Atherall, CEO of PsychArmor. “Cultural awareness training is the foundation on which we build solid and meaningful relationships.”
PsychArmor’s portfolio of more than 250 courses spans military culture, workforce development, suicide prevention, health equity, and wellness. Their team of clinical psychologists and social workers—each deeply grounded in military culture—creates comprehensive learning experiences including online courses, customized curricula, podcasts, webinars, and live speaking engagements.
As a nationally recognized nonprofit leader and preferred training provider for military cultural awareness, PsychArmor equips organizations like ICAN to engage more effectively and compassionately with the military‑connected community.
“This certification is more than a milestone for our organization—it’s a promise to the Veterans we serve,” Ashton said. “Our partnership with PsychArmor ensures that every member of our team is prepared to honor their service with understanding, respect, and informed support. We’re committed to showing up for them in the way they deserve.”
